Esher Surveyors began in 2009 when our founder, James Whitmore MRICS MCIOB, decided there was a gap in the local market for truly independent surveying advice. The larger national firms had started to feel impersonal — reports written by someone who'd never set foot in the area, answers that took days to arrive.
James wanted something different. He wanted clients to be able to ring the person who actually walked through their property. He wanted reports in plain English that said clearly: "here's what's wrong, here's why it matters, and here's roughly what it'll cost."
Fifteen years later, Esher Surveyors has grown into a small but experienced team of RICS surveyors covering the full Elmbridge borough. We've completed over 500 surveys across the area — from riverside cottages near the Thames to modern apartments in Surbiton and grand detached homes in the affluent KT10 postcode.
We're still independent. You still deal with the surveyor who inspected your property. And every report we write still carries that same ethos: clarity, honesty and professional advice you can actually use.

James founded Esher Surveyors in 2009 after 10 years with a national surveying firm. Born and raised in Surrey, he has an intimate knowledge of local property — from Victorian terraces in Surbiton to the large detached homes around Esher Common. Outside work, he's an avid cyclist and can often be found on the roads around Claygate.
Sarah joined the practice in 2015, bringing with her a specialist background in homebuyer surveys and valuation across south-west London and Surrey. She has a particular interest in the Esher and Thames Ditton property market and is known among clients for her reassuring, jargon-free communication style.
Robert specialises in complex Level 3 building surveys and party wall matters. With a background in construction project management, he understands buildings from the ground up. He's the first person you want on site for a challenging older property — if there's a structural issue lurking, Robert will find it.
